D12 visa to Indonesia: advantages and pitfalls

2024 brought a lot of events, visa changes, changes in the rules of visa processing to Indonesia and a new mode of entry to Ngurah Rai airport!

Today we will tell you about the new and convenient, in our opinion, long-term visa D12 and its features.

It all started with D212

It is important to note that in 2023 Indonesia introduced the D212 visa, which was also issued for a year. However, it only allowed you to stay in the country for 60 days without an extension, then you either had to leave the country or pay an extension fee.

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has changed the case and canceled the D212 visa. In its place, two new visas were introduced: D1 (for tourist purposes) and D2 (for business purposes).

Along with them, a brand new D12 visa was introduced, which allowed you to live in Indonesia for up to 180 days without leaving or extending!

First D12 visa on the island!

Unfortunately, things aren't quite as simple as they seemed. Despite the official introduction of the new visa, the immigration office just did not have stamps of the new visa, so tourists who applied through unverified visa agencies received stamps for 60 days instead of 180.

We at SUNRISE VISA AGENCY were the first to deal with the situation and issued this visa to our client Natalia, who received a 180-day stamp in her passport. We managed to get the head of the airport immigration service to personally cross out 60 days and write 180 days!

We were also the first to issue such a visa to a child, while many agencies still claimed it was impossible.

Only a month later, other agencies caught up with us and started trying to issue D12 visas to their clients, promising "lower cost". However, in the end the clients did not receive a D12 visa stamp for 180 days, but a D1 visa for only 60 days! And even now many agencies confuse these similar but completely different types of visas!

Let's get into the details. What are the advantages of D12 visa?

The D12 visa is a multiple entry pre-investment visa issued for 1 or 2 years. Its main benefits include:

  • Extension: you can stay in Indonesia for up to 180 days without extension. If necessary, it can be extended for another 180 days up to three times! Thus, you can live in Indonesia for up to 2 years without leaving Indonesia.
  • Multiple Entry and Exit: The D12 is a multiple entry and exit visa. You can enter and leave the country an unlimited number of times without having to apply for new visas. It saves a lot of time and money.
  • Reset Period of Stay: A significant advantage of the D12 visa is that if you leave the country during the validity period of the visa, the 180-day period of stay is reset. So, if you want to visit another country, you will save on visa renewal.
  • Business Opportunities: If you intend to start your business in Indonesia, D12 allows you to officially conduct business activities, including but not limited to field surveys and/or feasibility studies.
